Glasgow based artist Ally Wallace works across a range of disciplines, including sculpture, installation, drawing and video, to create artworks in response to chosen locations. His works are often exhibited in the spaces to which they relate.
For his project at Motherwell Concert Hall, he exhibits a series of sculptures and photographs which reflect his interest in Modernist architecture, of which Motherwell Concert Hall is a fine example. The photographs, exhibited in the café, are of his own Brutalist-inspired sculptures positioned outside against the backdrop of the Concert Hall, with the sculptures themselves exhibited in the foyer. The architecture of the building and responding sculptural pieces together create an interesting interplay which forms a re-presentation of the work (photographically) in the café exhibition space.
